Welcome to the BC Bonsai Society Website

The BC Bonsai Society is a club located in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia, Canada. Our members are dedicated to educating each other and the public in the enjoyment and cultivation of Bonsai. Information is passed member to member, through demonstrations, and put into practice through workshops.

Society President - Tak Yamaura

Picture of BCBS President Mr. Tak YamauraMr. Tak Yamaura has 35 years of experience in the art and skill of bonsai. He graduated from the University of Agriculture in Tokyo Japan, in 1968. While attending university, Mr. Yamaura was fortunate to receive training from Mr. Toshio Kawamoto, bonsai master of Nippon Bonsai Saikei Institute.

Arriving in Canada in 1970, Mr. Yamaura established "Japan Bonsai Garden Art" in White Rock, BC. The nursery has grown to be one of the largest in Canada with over 100,000 indoor, outdoor, and pre-bonsai nursery stock, as well as a complete line of Japanese pots, Korean mica pots and tools.

Mr. Yamaura is a regular presence and guiding mentor at our meetings for which our members are very thankful.

Membership:

Our annual membership fee is $30.00. If you wish to join the Society, please come to one of our meetings and introduce yourself. Someone will direct you to the Secretary.

Membership benefits:

Informal meetings, short on business, long on short trees, give new and experienced members a chance to flex their green thumbs along with their artistic license. With the BC Bonsai Society you can learn about:

  • The care and maintenance of Bonsai

  • How to select and create Bonsai from nursery stock

  • Advanced techniques such as grafting and wiring

  • The appreciation of fine Bonsai

Above all, the BC Bonsai Society is a chance to connect with people who share your interest in Bonsai.
